News Release from Lane Co. Government

This is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant accomplishment by Lane County and its staff. The County’s adopted budget has received this honor seventeen times.
Lane County’s budget document is one of the most important documents the County publishes each year. The budget document reflects policy and financial planning while also serving as an operations guide and communications tool. At its core, the budget document shares what funding is available, where funding goes and what services are provided to residents.
“We are honored to be recognized for the quality of our annual budget,” said County Administrator Steve Mokrohisky. “This award is a testament to Lane County’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparency in budgeting and shows our dedication to providing our community with a clear understanding of our financial plans. Each year we seek to improve our budget document and once again our team went the extra mile to include supplemental charts, graphs, and comprehensive information.”
The award was established in 1984 by the GFOA to “encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality.” Nominated documents are reviewed by GFOA staff and outside reviewers with expertise in public sector budgeting.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving more than 20,000 government finance professionals throughout the United States and Canada.
In addition to the GFOA award, Lane County was also notified by Moody’s Investors Services in March that its credit rating of Aa1 has been re-affirmed. An Aa1 rating, which is the second highest rating Moody’s provides, signals strong financial management and prudent use of resources.
