If you were to ask me how to prevent child abuse, there are many answers.
For some of us it started with a survey. Among the questions were ones like:
Do you think that there is a child abuse problem in Lane County?
Do you believe that there is something that can be done to prevent child abuse?
A group of Oakridge residents met in the School District Board room sometime back in 2013 to listen to Phyllis Barkhurst and Jeff Todahl, from the University of Oregon’s, CPAN (Center for the Prevention of Abuse and Neglect), talk about child abuse and child abuse prevention.
At the end of the meeting a handful of people volunteered to be part of the project called 90by30. The goal of this group was and is to decrease child abuse 90percent by 2030. We became the East Lane Regional Leadership Team.
This dedicated team has weathered much in the last nine plus years. And we have learned much. We have successfully implemented two prevention strategies: Roots of empathy and The Welcome Baby Bundle. We are also working toward the implementation of others such as Foster Grands, Safe Families and Parent Cafe.
90by30 operates under the belief that there is a part for everyone to play in the prevention of child abuse.
If you believe, as this team does, that child abuse is a problem in Lane County and that there is something that can be done to prevent that abuse I ask you to consider being part of the East Lane Regional team of 90by30.
The attached flyer is on step towards being part of our team. Please seriously consider being part of our team of volunteers. Help us fight child abuse here at home and throughout Lane County.
