Call to artists: Craftsmen, designers, and culinary artists for Festival of Trees, an UBRA fundraising event set for December 10
By now, you know we live in the largest stand of Douglas fir trees in the world. Paying homage to the emerald empire while celebrating the holiday season this year, UBRA (Uptown Business Revitalization Association) is hosting Festival of Trees, a fund raising event Saturday, December 10, embracing the many talented people in our community.
This is a call to three categories of artisans.
Craftsmen and designers are invited to donate designed or decorated trees, which will be auctioned off at a gala dinner, December 10.
Craftsmen are invited to donate designed trees, which can be created from an unlimited number of sources. The following are ideas only:
- A large A frame triangle constructed from 2x4s from which to hang ornaments or symbols of the season,
- The image of a tree constructed from recycled materials,
- The shape of a tree built of found limbs, branches, and twigs.
Designers are invited to donate decorated trees. Examples and themes of decorated trees are as infinite as our imaginations and can be as ornate or minimalist as the designer wishes.
While considering a design, artisans should keep in mind how portable the tree is. Transportation may be available depending on the tree’s size and fragility. A percentage of the final auction price will be given to the craftsman and designers. This criterion is set to encourage all trees are desirable to buy and display in homes or businesses. Final details will be released at a later date.
The success of this fundraiser is based primarily on how many trees are donated and the prices they draw through an auction. If you’d like to donate a tree, it’s critical you follow through. Please submit a signed and dated description of your donation, which must include the following:
- Your contact information including address, telephone number, and email address,
- A description of the tree you’ll donate (i.e. a cut tree designed with a candy cane theme)
- Whether you need power for lights et al, how large you anticipate your design will be for staging purposes, will transportation be needed to deliver the tree.
The third call is for culinary artists. We are looking for a caterer to prepare a three-course dinner for 50-100 people. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase a broad range of culinary talent in our community. Please submit a signed and dated bid, which must include:
- Your contact information including telephone number and email address,
- A detailed menu that will accommodate equal opportunity appetites as well as vegetarian and vegan appetites, while also including suggestions of wine or other beverages to enhance your meal,
- The number of plates, bowls, glasses and silverware required for each dinner guest.
Take into consideration patrons of this event are paying for your product and services as well as a contribution to UBRA. A final tally of patrons/attendees will be provided by November 30.
Craftsmen, designers and culinary artists are to submit sealed bids to Toni Wassenberg at Art Works, or Janet Hansen at Boho Chateau by October 8, 2022. Wassenberg and Hansen are the art committee chairs for UBRA.
