By GEORGE CUSTER/Editor/The Herald == Meet Kathy Holston. One of Oakridge’s previous mayors and active volunteer to many organizations and groups. Kathy brings a resume of hard work and dedication to The Herald. Born Mary Kathryn Holston, Kathy moved to Oakridge prior to retiring after 27 years of working at the University of Oregon.
While at U of O she worked as Executive Assistant to the Vice president for Public Affairs and Development and was a Donor Relations Specialist for the Office of Stewardship. There she managed high end and anonymous donors’ requests, needs and experiences.
She has called the Highway 58 corridor home for almost 40 years. Kathy and her family moved to Pleasant Hill in 1983 in search of a rural community in which to raise her family. “All of my five children graduated from P Hill, so my roots here run deep.”
Kathy goes on to say, “To have experienced the ensuing radical changes, both good and bad, in our nation and in the world has made me aware of the importance of our individual voices and our collective actions.”
Our newest board member served on the Oakridge City Council for two years before becoming Oakridge’s mayor for three years.
An avid reader who loves the outdoors, Kathy believes that she has a responsibility to give back to the world and help others on whatever journey they may be on.
As President of the Board, I’m sure that I speak for all at The Herald by giving you a heartfelt “welcome aboard!”
