As we enter December 2023, let’s look back at some of the news and stories that The Herald brought to our readers this year.

Best places to fish? Rob DeHarpport had you covered with the Outdoor Report. Who’s voting yea or nay at City Council meetings on the important issues that affect our lives? The Mayor’s Monthly Newsletter, published in The Herald, let you know. What venue is providing music this weekend? Ben Olson religiously covered that beat (plus some interesting facts and stories in Featured Sidebar). Want to keep up on the local crime scene? Amy, our office manager, publishes the weekly report. We informed our readers to the grand opening of the Maggie Osgood library in Lowell earlier this year. News relevant to our veterans is a high priority to us. The annual Tree Planting parade – The Herald was awash in pictures taken by several of our volunteer contributors.

These are just a fraction of the events that were not covered by any other open-sourced broadcast media. To date, The Herald has published 1,178 stories since January 1st that we feel are important specifically to our communities.

All this takes place because of our belief that rural communities need to be informed. However, it takes a lot of time and money to get the information out to you.

If you believe in our mission to “…to provide professional journalism and vital information as a service to Oakridge and other communities… (and) was created to fill a news vacuum in communities desperately in need of accurate, comprehensive, and reliable information that citizens need to participate fully in community life and to stay safe in times of emergency,” then please send your heartfelt donation to us so that we may continue to serve our communities into the future.

To donate, go to the yellow DONATE button on the right side of the dropdown menu at the top of the landing page.

Thank you.
