Pleasant Hill middle and high schools keep track of F grades.
“It’s part of an effort to help students improve their performance,” says High School Principal Randy Fisher.
In his Feb. 9 report to the school board, Fisher showed a graph that tracks how this weekly accounting is used by teachers in reaching out to students who have flunked or missed an assignment.
Since the advent of Covid-19, Fisher says the district has stepped up efforts to contact every student who may need help.
“We have teachers who meet every Friday and look at this data and decide what they can do to support the students,” Fisher said. “We have tracked grades for four or five years but the weekly Friday team meetings just started this past year.
“It seems to be working well during the Covid era,” says Fisher, who credits teachers with “doing a fantastic job” in helping reduce the number of F’s that appear on his chart.
