Gardening education and advice is needed now more than ever. The OSU Extension Master Gardener program is training new community educators in 2023, who will help provide advice and support for Oregon’s growing community of gardeners. We’ve updated and redesigned how we deliver the program, making it accessible to more Oregonians and more reflective of community needs for training a new cohort of gardening education volunteers.
Master Gardener volunteer training is conducted by local county OSU Extension offices, with support and guidance by the statewide office. Master Gardener trainees will be able to access online classes and participate in local, in-person workshops. Fees for the training program have been reduced, and many local Master Gardener Associations are making scholarships available to partially cover the costs of training. More flexible options for meeting volunteer service requirements are also available in 2023.
In Lane county, we will be offering Master Gardener Volunteer training classes and garden labs! Online classes begin late January 2023 and outdoor garden labs start in February! The cost is $350 and $150 is a deposit, refundable upon completion of 40 volunteer service hours. Applications close November 15, 2022. Apply online: htts://beav.es/Uq6
About the OSU Extension Master Gardener program:
The Oregon State University Extension Master Gardener program educates Oregonians about the art and science of growing and caring for plants. We are in 27 counties across the state, and work with thousands of Master Gardener volunteers to share gardening advice and education with tens of thousands of Oregon gardeners, each year. OSU Extension Master Gardeners are volunteer educators, neighbors, and on-the-ground researchers who serve their community with solid training in science-based, sustainable gardening and a love of lifelong learning.
