CCB ALERT: Illegitimate emails mimicking Oregon CCB are being sent to contractors

CCB has been made aware of emails from illegitimate sources that appear as though they are from Oregon CCB. The emails encourage the recipients to click a button to review and sign a document. Although these emails look legitimate, the emails do not come from the CCB.

CCB sends a number of emails to contractors, reminding them to renew their license, renew their insurance on file at the agency, and take their continuing education. However, we do not currently send “Docusign” emails to contractors. If you have received an email encouraging you to review and sign a document from the CCB, this email is not legitimate. It is not from the CCB.

CCB does not currently use Docusign software that allows documents to be signed electronically. If you receive an email that appears to come from the Construction Contractors Board encouraging you to review and sign a document, this is an email from an illegitimate source pretending to be CCB (otherwise known as “phishing”). It was not sent to you by the CCB.

How can you tell if an email from the CCB is legitimate?

CCB regularly sends reminder emails and newsletter emails. We do not send emails that encourage contractors to review or sign documents. Below, you’ll see a picture showing some red flags to watch for. These are signs of a phishing scam.

More warning signs to watch for include:

• Obvious spelling errors
• Poor grammar and spelling
• Unusual sender address
• Fake sender address that looks legitimate
• Urgent messages encouraging you to click on a link to resolve a problem the email has alerted you to
• Strange URLs with encouragement to click on them
• Requests for sensitive information
• Incorrect or blurry logos
• Unusual requests

If you suspect an email you have received is a phishing scam, do not click on any links in the email. Delete it.
