By GEORGE CUSTER/Editor — The local candidates running for office were able to chat with their voters at the Three Legged Crane on Tuesday evening. The event, sponsored by the Oakridge Westfir Area Chamber of Commerce, allowed local residents to ask questions in a relaxed and informal setting.
A well organized and well supplied event
John Crane, owner of the Three legged Crane and Chamber of Commerce member, opened his doors for the get-together. The Chamber put out a spread of hors d’oeuvres for the attendees and John Crane worked “pubmanship” at the bar. if the veggie and meat plates weren’t enough, Fynn Dill, a pastry chef, donated four boxes of delicious cupcakes and tarts for the event. She has recently moved to Oakridge and sells her pastries primarily online.
Candidates in attendance for the Meet N’ Greet: Bryan Cutchen and Chrissy Hollett, both running for Oakridge mayor; Don Grant and Dirk “Poncho” Tarman, candidate for Oakridge City Council seats.
Additional candidates could be heard from
Besides the candidates, Michelle Emmons-Mcpharlin, Oregon State Representative HD12 candidate, was in attendance. Michelle is also on the Chamber Board of Directors. A surprise guest, running for Oregon Govenor, Leon Noble, joined the event to stump his platform here in Oakridge.
Candidates were tested on their knowledge
All of the candidates in attendance seemed to be constantly engaged in answering questions. Generally, the discussions appeared to center around Oakridge’s future needs. The two-hour event went by quickly. Everyone seemed to have an enjoyable evening, one of the first without the cloak of smoke lurking everywhere outside. The light rain of the evening was a nice respite.
Lastly, the importance of the event was another reminder to everyone to get out and vote.
