Starting at noon, July 8th, The Highway 58 Herald will be part of a panel discussion hosted by City Club of Eugene. The topic of discussion: Can Local Papers Survive?
The event will be live streamed on City Club of Eugene YouTube channel.
Mr. Joel Korin has asked The Herald’s editor, George Custer, to participate along with Jackman Wilson, Former Editor of The Eugene Register Guard. Also, as part of the panel will be Steve Forrester, CEO of EO Media Group. Doug Bates, founding editor of The Herald will also represent The Herald during the discussion.
The mission of The City Club of Eugene is to build community vision through open inquiry. The Club explores a wide range of significant local, state, and national issues and helps to formulate new approaches and solutions to problems. Membership is open to all, and Club members have a direct influence on public policy by discussing issues of concern with elected officials and other policy makers. The program will be live streamed, and the videotape will be made available on the City Club of Eugene’s Facebook page and You Tube Channel, in addition to their website. It will be broadcast on Monday, July 11, at 7:00 pm, on KLCC 89.7 FM.

George Custer lives in Oakridge with his wife Sayre. George is a former smokejumper from his hometown of Cave Junction, a former captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. and ran a construction company in Southern California. George assumed the volunteer duties as the Editor of the Highway 58 Herald in 2022. He loves riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, building all things wood, and playing drums on the weekends in his office.
