EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY all City of Oakridge owned flags have been lowered to half-staff and will remain so through Monday August 15th, in honor of fallen wildland firefighter Collin Hagan of the Craig lnteragency Hotshots, who was killed in the line of duty on August 10th, 2022, while engaged in firefighting efforts on the Big Swamp fire on the Willamette National Forest.
In addition, a memorial wreath is being made and will be displayed on the flagpole in front of City Hall by the end of the day.
On behalf of the Oakridge City Council, city employees, and all Oakridge citizens, we wish to express our deepest condolences and gratitude to Mr. Hagan, his family, and his fellow crew members. Mr. Hagan’s service, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty will not be forgotten.

George Custer lives in Oakridge with his wife Sayre. George is a former smokejumper from his hometown of Cave Junction, a former captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. and ran a construction company in Southern California. George assumed the volunteer duties as the Editor of the Highway 58 Herald in 2022. He loves riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, building all things wood, and playing drums on the weekends in his office.
