By RICK ZYLSTRA/for The Herald  —  Oakridge City Council special session was called to order shortly after 7pm with the pledge of allegiance followed by roll call. All councilors were present. The council promptly went into executive session for the cited purpose of and under Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS) 192.660(2)(a) to consider the employment of a public officer, employee, staff member or individual agent.

The council resumed special session shortly after 8:35 with no motion made nor entertained by council.

One citizen signed up for public comment. Cash Gardner, voiced his questions and concerns regarding the failed public safety levy and how council went around the people to impose the fee. He followed by asking why he hadn’t seen improvement regarding policing, giving an example of publicly intoxicated individuals.

Mr. Gardner’s questions and concerns were addressed by council regarding how the public safety ordinance is only intended to maintain the current levels of service and how council needed to cover the deficit within the budget to keep the current levels of service, but it wasn’t intended to increase services.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:43.
