By GEORGE CUSTER/Editor/The Herald — The Three Legged Crane is Oakridge’s version of “Cheers”- where everybody knows your name. I had been chained to my desk for weeks on end keeping The Herald moving forward day-by-day. It was time to finally take in a Saturday night at the pub.
I needed to see if there was anybody who still knew my name and if I would recognize anybody there. It seemed like it had been forever since I have been “out and about” on a Saturday night at the Pub. The Crane often has live entertainment on Saturday nights and I was looking for some music to take my mind and soul away, at least for a while.
A wonderful sensation to the ears hit me upon entering the pub
What I wasn’t expecting was what I heard upon entering. Some really fine music was being played by a soloist in the main room. So, when I sat down with my pint of IPA with some friends that I did know, I was seriously entertained by singer-songwriter Cuchulain Kelly.
I’m pretty picky when it comes to live music, but Cuchulain, yes, that’s his real name, is the real deal. He is a gifted performer. He has a strong but soothing voice, is a talented guitar player, and has an engaging personality.
Kelly has a unique style, yet something for everyone
I was surprised at the range of styles that he plays. Kind of a folksy, all-American style that most often tells a story with a purpose. His wit, which he integrates into his songs, keeps the audience in stiches. His casual demeanor makes you feel as if you’ve known him for years.
While performing many of his own original songs, he mixed in some timeless classics from the likes of John Prine, Johnny Cash, Paul Simon, and others.
My evening was complete
Not only was it nice to finally get paroled from the laptop that I’ve been chained to, but I was presented with a musical gift in the form of Cuchulain Kelly. That gift alone made my entire evening’s outing worthwhile.
Kelly is a multifaceted individual and can be even better understood by visiting him on his Facebook page. Find him also on twitter, Spotify, iTunes, and Amazon Music. www.cuchulainkelly.com
