By FEGUS MCLEAN/for The Herald  —   Dexter Sanitary District (DSD) Board of Directors monthly meeting will Monday, January 8.The meeting will be held at the Dexter Library across Lost Creek Road from the Lake Club in uptown Dexter.
The DSD Board is chronically short of members, and all five seats on the Board are open for next May’s election. The Oregon Special District law allows for a $50 meeting stipend. This might be a way to encourage District members to step up to run for a seat on the five-member District Board. To enact this, the Board might pass a resolution that Board members receive the stipend.
We need some capable board members willing to dig in to the proposed $8 million treatment plant upgrade plan. We need someone watching to keep costs down. Paying Board members a consideration for their time and effort might make a difference. District voters can put a measure compensating Board members for meetings on the May ballot by the initiative process under Oregon law.
