By DEAN REA/Correspondent/The Herald — Drag boat races on Dexter Lake will resume Friday, July 16, which means that the lake will be off-limits to the public from 8 a.m. to late afternoon through Sunday, and the state park at Dexter will be closed to the public until after race activities end each day.
As many as 50 contestants are anticipated for The Bi-Mart Summer Clash that begins with “testing and tuning,” reports Mike Grover, safety coordinator. Boats will qualify Friday and will race Saturday over a 1,000-foot, straight-line course toward the dam.
Grover said the races may end as early as 5 p.m. because of the anticipated heat. The lake will then be opened to the public.
The start of the Columbia Drag Boat Association season was canceled in June because of COVID-19 restrictions. The association’s Northwest National competition is scheduled at the lake on Sept. 18-19.
