By BEN OLSON/for The Herald — Last night’s performance of Blue Moon Burlesque was, once again, a sold out show. There’s something about dancing girls that seems to sell tickets. Loren Christopher Michaels and Chelsi Rhule put together a great show. The plotting has already begun on a future variety revue of this nature, which proved to be a showcase for local dancers, actors and singers. I even got to tell a few off-color jokes.
After the show, I headed down to the 3 Legged Crane to catch the last set of Oregon’s funkiest band, Sweet ‘n Juicy, before moving on to the Corner Bar and the cast party. Everyone was just itching to dance, but that had to wait until the Ducks had secured the win over the rival Utes.
The Crane and DLC will start back up with music right after Thanksgiving
The 3 Legged Crane will be featuring guitarist Sidney Joseph this Saturday evening, November 26. Joseph is a multi-instrumentalist who played in bands in Philadelphia before making the cross country move to Eugene. Looking at the list of artists that he covers, I am certain that it will be an interesting show. Check out his website sidneyjoseph.com.
Sidney’s show will begin at 7 p.m. The 3 Legged Crane has appetizers and sandwiches, as well as a wide range of hand-crafted beers. There is no cover charge for the live music. They will be closed this Thursday for Thanksgiving so those open mic enthusiasts will have to wait another week. The Oakridge Holiday Market will be taking place at the Crane this Sunday, November 27 from noon until 4 p.m. The Crane is located on 1st Street in Uptown Oakridge.
I’ll be down at the Dexter Lake Club this Friday, November 25, from 6 until 8 p.m. I’ll playing cover tunes on my upright bass and guitar, though not simultaneously. That would be a trick, though. On Sunday evening Brian Chevalier and friends will be hosting the open mic and jam session. That begins a little after 6 p.m. This is a great opportunity to get up on stage and sing a song or two, or jam along with a real band. There is no cover charge for the live music. The Dexter Lake Club has a full bar and the adjoining Rattlesnake BBQ has appetizers, sandwiches and full dinners. The club is located just off of Highway 58 near milepost 12 in downtown Dexter.
I wish that I had more to report this week on live entertainment in the Highway 58 corridor, but that would entail me making up stuff, a trait that gets journalists in trouble. Enjoy your Thanksgiving, and as we approach the Christmas holidays, show a little kindness and tolerance for your fellow man. Actually, that would be a good thing to do throughout the year. If you know of any live music events taking place in our readership area, please drop me a line so that I can include it in my weekly report.
