By BEN OLSON/for The Herald — There are times that I have difficulty writing my entertainment column when I’m right there in Oakridge. I’m always hoping that what you read in my column will be useful and accurate. That said, I’ll give you all the information that I’ve been able to track down via internet and text messages.
Craig Soreth back at the DLC
Craig Sorseth will be playing the 6 until 8 P.M. shift at the Dexter Lake Club this Friday, March 10. A virtuoso on the guitar, Craig has a song list that includes many folk, blues and bluegrass tunes that have become standards. He has that high, lonesome voice that’s required to pull off a lot of those tunes. On Sunday night, Brian Chevalier and friends will be hosting the regular open mic and jam session. That starts at 6 P.M. The Dexter Lake Club is located just off Highway 58 by milepost 12. They have a full bar and the adjoining Rattlesnake BBQ has appetizers, sandwiches and dinners on the menu. There’s no cover charge for the live music. For more information, call 541 581 3000.
Broken Horn will be back at the Lion Mountain Bakery this weekend. He’ll be playing his song stylings this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 10, 11 and 12, from 11 A.M. until 1 P.M. Broken Horn covers tunes from Elvis to Hank Williams to Little Anthony and the Imperials. Enjoy breakfast or lunch in a relaxed, spacious atmosphere while listening to some classic old songs. The Lion Mountain is right on Highway 58 in Oakridge. There is no cover charge for the music.
Have a brew and hope for Patch
John doesn’t have anyone on the 3 Legged Crane calendar this weekend. No word on the Thursday open mic that I usually host. Patch has been known to come in and regale listeners with sea shanties and Irish drinking songs. Sometimes it’s theme songs from movies that are only on TV at 3 in the morning. I hope it goes well, and that everyone who shows up is entertained. That generally begins between 6 and 7 P.M. The Crane serves handcrafted beers and ales, many of which are brewed right there in the building. They also have appetizers, sandwiches and dinners on the menu. There’s never a cover charge for the music. You can find the 3 Legged Crane on 1st Street in the old part of Oakridge.
Ben back at the Pass
I hope Sidney Joseph did well covering for me at Willamette Pass Resort on Saturday. I’ll be back this coming Saturday, March 11, playing from noon until 3 P.M. That’s assuming I catch all my flights and Highway 58 isn’t snowed over. With only a ukulele to work with here in Mexico, I’ve been trying to brush up on tunes that have fallen off my song list. Willamette Pass Resort has a full bar and a number of food options. You don’t have to be a skier or snowboarder to come in and listen to some music and watch people charging down the slopes. The Resort is located at milepost 62 on Highway 58.
I’m looking forward to being back in Oakridge, refreshed and batteries all recharged. If any entertainment offerings were omitted, I apologize. As always, if you know of a live music event in the Highway 58 corridor, drop me an email with the details. I would be happy to include it in my column. Hasta luego, amigos.
