By BEN OLSON/for The Herald — On assignment somewhere south of the border. Thanks to the wonders of the internet, I’m able to keep you posted on what’s happening in the Highway 58 corridor.
Vinyl Revival at the DLC
Dustin at the Dexter Lake Club has texted me that Vinyl Revival will be playing this Friday, March 3 at 6 p.m. In my Google search for more info on the band, I found a 10 piece horn band from New York with that name. I would be willing to bet it’s not them. Then there’s a husband and wife Vinyl Revival from Kentucky and another band with that name based in Kansas City. My recommendation is to show up, get something to eat and drink, and enjoy the show.
Drop me an email with your review so that I have something to go with next time they’re playing. Brian Chevalier and friends will be on stage at 6 p.m. Sunday for the open mic and jam session. Stop by and join in the fun.
The Dexter Lake Club is located just off Highway 58 by milepost 12. They have a full bar, and the adjoining Rattlesnake BBQ serves sandwiches and dinners. There’s no cover charge for the live music.
Broken Horn will be playing choice cover songs from the golden era of music at the Lion Mountain Bakery in Oakridge. He’ll be playing from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 3, 4 and 5. The Lion Mountain serves both breakfast and lunch in a spacious relaxed atmosphere. There is no cover charge for the live music.
Arthur Buezo at the Crane this Thursday
No open mic at the 3 Legged Crane this week. Instead, Arthur Buezo will be taking the stage at 7 p.m. this Thursday, March 2. Playing what he refers to as “savage folk” music, the multi-instrumentalist keeps the energy level up from start to finish. Playing all original tunes, Buezo has 4 albums to his credit and another one coming out soon. Check out his website arthurbuezo.com. On Saturday night the Soul Crane Experience is back, minus their new bass player, who is on assignment. It promises to be fun, as always, with keyboardist extraordinaire Scott Hitchings laying down the grooves. That gets started at 7 p.m.
The Crane is located on 1st Street in the old part of Oakridge. They have a great selection of hand-crafted beers and ales and appetizers, sandwiches and dinners on the menu. Cover charge? None!
A new sound this Saturday at the Willamette Pass Lodge
This Saturday, Sidney Joseph will be subbing for me at the Willamette Pass Resort. Located at milepost 62 on Highway 58, the resort offers top-notch skiing and snowboarding. The bar there is a great place to take a break from it all and watch others come down the slopes, as well as hear some great live music. Sidney will be playing covers of songs you’ll be happy to hear again. He describes it as “rock & soul, infused with the blues”. He’ll be playing from noon until 3 p.m. on March 4. Check out his website at www.sidneyjoseph.com. The Willamette Pass Resort has a full bar and a number of food options. There is no cover charge, and you don’t need to be a skier to stop in and check it out.
I think that’s all I can tell you about entertainment in the Highway 58 corridor this week. I will continue my research into whether mariachi music is something that I should add to my repertoire. If you know of a live music event happening in our readership area, please drop me a line with the details so that I can include it in my column. Hasta luego.
