By BEN OLSON/for The Herald — After being bumped on the final straightaway and losing the Coca-Cola 600 by a car length, T.S. Eliot said, at a post-race press conference, “April is the cruelest month.” He later went back to his motel room, not coming out until he’d written an entire poem about it. The poem was rather dark and made not a mention of the race that he had just lost. To save you a little reading, there was a mention of not planting some of your vegetables until all danger of frost has passed. I personally will attest that April can be cruel if you think spring is really here to stay.
Ben will be at the Willamette Pass Lounge while the snow lasts
April is the home stretch for those who want to ski and snowboard in this neck of the woods. Willamette Pass Resort managed to keep it going into May last year but will need a little help from Mother Nature for that to happen again this season. The spring skiing vibe is obvious on the sunny days when the temps get up into the 50s- shorts, t-shirts, and even an occasional bikini sighting.
When it’s time to take a break from all the fresh air and exercise, the lounge is open with all your favorite beverages. On Saturday and Sunday there will be live music from noon until 3 pm. This weekend, I’ll be the guitar man, attempting to set the mood. In addition to a full array of drinks, Willamette Pass Resort has appetizers, sandwiches and pizza. If you arrive early to lay first tracks, breakfast is available until 10 am. The resort is located at milepost 62 on Highway 58, 25 miles east of Oakridge.
Angelic Noise returns to the Crane
Angelic Noise will be returning to the 3 Legged Crane in Uptown Oakridge this Saturday, April 6. I’ve seen them play a number of times, yet I find it difficult to describe what it is that they do. He plays the guitar and she sings, and it’s all original songs. There is a certain joy to the way that the songs are presented. The patter between the tunes makes you feel like the concert is being put on for you personally. The music begins at 7 pm. You can check out some of their songs at theangelicnoise.com. The 3 Legged Crane is a brewpub, making many of the beers and ales on site. They have appetizers, sandwiches and dinners on the menu.
I haven’t heard anything from the folks down at the Dexter Lake Club about their music schedule for the upcoming week.
Soon, real soon, outside music will start happening up and down the Highway 58 corridor. I’m looking forward to being out there playing for an outdoor audience, and I’m also happy to be part of the crowd, listening to one of my fellow performers. That’s all I’ve got for this week. Next week, in addition to the entertainment postings, I’ll explain how you can use this column as a tax write-off.
