By BEN OLSON/for The Herald — Earth Day will be taking place this Saturday, April 22. To celebrate, Rob at the Corner Bar in uptown Oakridge, will be featuring the Stewart Roadhouse Band. Speeches about saving the Earth will be dispensed with and a steady serving of rock and roll will begin at 9 pm. The Corner Bar is located on 1st Street in uptown Oakridge. They have a full bar and food specials, but no cover charge for the live music.
Chris Baron at the Crane
Just a block east on 1st Street is the 3 Legged Crane, where beer is made and served. Singer-songwriter Chris Baron will be playing his originals for you this Saturday, April 22. The show begins at 7 pm. A personable performer, Chris will make everyone in the audience feel like they’ve been invited to an intimate performance. Check out the website, chrisbaronmusic.com. I’ll be there on Thursday evening, April 20, orchestrating the open mic. That begins at 6:30 pm. Singers and pickers are welcome to stop by and join in the fun. The Crane, in addition to brewing their own beer, has a nice selection of taps from other select Oregon microbreweries. They also have appetizers, sandwiches and dinners on the menu. There is no cover charge for the live tunes.
Brunch and music at the LMB
Broken Horn will be back again this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 21, 22 and 23, playing for the brunch crowd at the Lion Mountain Bakery. He’s got an eclectic bunch of classic tunes, covering a number of genres from the 50s and 60s. The music runs from 11 am until 1 pm each day. The Lion Mountain Bakery is located on Highway 58 in Oakridge. They serve both breakfast and lunch, and there is no cover charge for the live music.
DLC to host Eli Pierzina on Friday
Eli Pierzina and his guitar will be bringing in the weekend at the Dexter Lake Club this Friday, April 21. Eli plays what I would call “soulful country”. It’s a nice mix of original tunes and covers. The show runs from 6 until 8 pm, so don’t be late. On Sunday evening, Brian Chevalier and friends will be hosting the regular jam session and open mic. You’ll want to be there by 6 pm to get a good seat. One of these days the weather will be suitable to move the music to the beer garden out back. The Dexter Lake Club has a full bar, and the adjoining Rattlesnake BBQ has appetizers, sandwiches and dinners on the menu. They’re located just off Highway 58 by milepost 12. As always, there’s no cover charge for the live music. For more details, call 541 581 3000.
Two more weeks for skiing and music at the Pass
At the eastern end of our coverage area, the Willamette Pass Resort will be open for 2 more weekends. They won’t be closing for lack of snow this year. They’ve had record snowfalls this winter and more is predicted this week. Put the boards on for another run or two. If you take a break from your skiing, I’ll be singing and playing my guitar and bass in the panoramic Summit Lounge both Saturday and Sunday this week. The music runs from noon until 3 pm. Willamette Pass has a full bar and a number of tasty food options. You don’t have to be a skier or snowboarder to stop by and enjoy the ambiance. There’s no cover charge to stop by and listen to the music. The Resort is located on the north side of Highway 58, right at the border of Lane and Klamath Counties at milepost 62.
Driving to play at Willamette Pass this morning, I was in a rain event all the way from Oakridge to the tunnel. Emerging from the east end of the tunnel, I was being snowed upon. It snowed throughout the afternoon at the ski hill. Upon my trip home, as I pulled out of the west end of the tunnel, I was back in the rain. That’s all I’ve got this week. Stay well and keep your powder dry.
