By BEN OLSON/for The Herald — Sunday afternoon in Oakridge. I’m sitting in my armchair, looking out the window at the rain and the gloom. It’s 3:30 and it will be dark soon. I used the extra hour that I had been gifted to take the dog for a nice long walk along the North Fork, returning to the truck just before the rain started in earnest. Without a TV, I was spared watching my Packers lose their 5th game in a row. Stick a fork in them- they’re done. I think I’ll finish my entertainment report, then play my guitar for a bit before I head off to play practice. Ahh, the excitement of being a journalist!
ZCT at the bakery
Loren Christopher Michaels is putting out another great show featuring local singers, dancers and actors. Blue Moon Burlesque- a Musical Walk on the Wild Side will be taking place the next 2 weekends, Friday and Saturday, November 11, 12, 18 and 19. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the curtain comes up at 7 p.m. This is an adult show, so leave the kids at home. Cocktails, wine and beer will be available. The show takes place at the Lion Mountain Bakery, with advance tickets available there, as well as at the Postal Pharmacy and the 3 Legged Crane. Advanced tickets are $15. Tickets bought at the door on the day of the show are $18.
As I said in my last column, I would get you up to speed on the karaoke at the Moose Lodge located on Highway 58 in Oakridge. Karaoke happens every Saturday night beginning when the mood is right, which is between 6 and 7 p.m. Guests are welcome at the Moose Lodge, there is a full bar and no cover charge.
DLC keeps cranking the music scene
At the Dexter Lake Club, down by milepost 12, The Angelic Noise will be bringing their eclectic sound to the stage this Friday night, November 11, beginning at 6 p.m. On Sunday evening, November 13, Brian Chevalier and crew will be running the open mic and jam session, beginning at 6 p.m. Bring your guitar on down and join in the fun. There is no cover charge for either of these live music events. The Dexter Lake Club has a full bar, and the adjoining Rattlesnake BBQ has appetizers, sandwiches and full dinners. For more details, call 541 581 3000.
The Crane keeps Olson hopping
I don’t know what to tell you about the open mic at the 3 Legged Crane this Thursday. It’s on the calendar, with me as the host, but I’m also supposed to be at the dress rehearsal for the Blue Moon Burlesque show at pretty much the same time. As my mentors, the Firesign Theater asked, “how can you be two places at once when you’re not anywhere at all?” I’m not sure how it’s going to work. I would suggest that you show up with a musical instrument, have a beer, and just see what happens.
On a more certain note, Arthur Buezo will be returning to the Crane on his lengthy tour of the Pacific Northwest. A one-man band, playing what he terms as “savage folk”, Arthur will take you on a musical rollercoaster. Showtime is 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 12. The 3 Legged Crane features hand-crafted beers and ales brewed right there and ones from other select Oregon microbreweries. They have an appetizer and sandwich menu, as well as some delicious soups. There is no cover charge for the live music.
That’s all I’ve got this week. I’ll be waxing up the snowboard in anticipation of the impending snow season. It’s been a few years since I’ve had the board strapped on- not much vertical drop in southwest Florida and the snow conditions were seldom optimal. If you know of a live music event in the Highway 58 corridor, please drop me a line with the details. I would be happy to mention it in my column.
