By BEN OLSON/For The Herald — It is always pleasing, as one travels west, to get the hours back that were wrested away and then held captive as one traveled east.
Yes, it was good to get that time back, but only a week later, an hour that I’m accustomed to using to finish up my work and maybe crack open a beer gets moved to a time of day when I am getting my best sleep. I’m not a big fan of changing the clocks around. As it was explained to me by a dairy farmer friend in Wisconsin, “It don’t matter what time the clock says, the cows know when it’s time to be milked.”
Spotlight Project Presents
The Spotlight Project Presents will be broadcasting live this Sunday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. Guest host Jason Nehmer will be doing an “In the Spotlight” interview with regular host Becky Chamberlain. There will be a “Comfort Cooking” segment with Ypsilanti’s own crockpot guru, Molly McKitchen.
Musical guest will be recording artist Peter Wilde, doing all-original tunes in his inimitable style. The show can be watched live-streamed on Facebook or seen live at the WAC Center on School Street, although seating at the WAC is limited.
3 Legged Crane Pub and Brewhouse
Peter Wilde, the Eugene singer-songwriter to be featured by The Spotlight Project Presents, will also be playing at the 3 Legged Crane in Uptown Oakridge this coming Saturday night, Nov. 13. Showtime is at 6 pm. and there is no cover charge. If nothing changes between now and Saturday, I’ll be hunkered down at a table near the front, hollering out requests.
The 3 Legged Crane will be featuring an open mic with the Song Dawgz on Thursday nights, beginning at 6 p.m. and running until about 8:30.
The Crane features award-winning beers, brewed right in the back room, and a sandwich, appetizer and dinner menu. I’ll be in there all by myself on Monday evening with my guitar and bass, amusing myself and anybody who stops in. Bring your guitar or accordion and join in the fun. The music starts at 6 p.m. No cover charge for either of these events.
Lion Mountain Bakery
The Lion Mountain Bakery, on Highway 58 in Oakridge will be featuring song stylings by Broken Horn this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 12, 13 and 14 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Lion Mountain is bicycle-friendly and serves breakfast and lunch. There is no cover charge. I’ll be there on Sunday morning from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. taking you on a rollercoaster ride with tunes that I’ve dusted off — tunes that, perhaps, weren’t meant to be played on a ukulele.
Dexter Lake Club
At the Dexter Lake Club in midtown Dexter there will be open mic/jam sessions on Sunday and Tuesday evenings, commencing some time after 6 p.m. The jam on Sundays, hosted by Brian Chevalier, is “electric” and tends toward rock and roll. Tuesday night’s jam, hosted by Brian and Craig Sorseth, is more acoustic. Grab your guitar and come on down to do your Waylon or Zak Brown covers. There’s no cost to get in. Dexter Lake Club has a full bar and serves lunches and dinner. I didn’t get the word as to whether the karaoke will be happening on Thursday. Call for details at 541-581-3000.
That’s about all that I can find going in for entertainment in the Highway 58 corridor this week. Stay safe and keep smiling.
