By BEN OLSON/For The Herald — It’s going to be a big week for John Crane, proprietor and brewmaster of the 3 Legged Crane Pub and Brewhouse in uptown Oakridge.

In addition to having live music at the Crane each evening from Thursday through Sunday, John will then be joining pianist Scott Hitchings as the musical guests on the upcoming Spotlight Project Presents.

Spotlight Project Presents to air this weekend

Loren Christopher Michaels and his crew of volunteers will be airing the next live show of The Spotlight Project Presents this Sunday, March 13, at 7 p.m at the Willamette Activity Center (WAC) on School Street.

Musical guests at the Spotlight Project will be Soul Crane, with John Crane on lead vocals, accompanied by Scott Hitchings on piano and harmonies. Soul Crane evokes memories of the great R & B music from the ’60s, channeling Otis Redding, with some original tunes, as well.

Also on the show will be a one-act play, entitled “Hourglass,” written by Loren and starring the show’s hostess, Becky Chamberlain.

In addition, there will also be some sleight of hand featuring Oakridge magician Jeff Martin, an interview with local artist Jill Mardin and “Community Corner,” hosted by Catrina Davis. Limited seating for the live show is available. You must be at the WAC by 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.  Or watch it at 7 p.m. live-streaming on Facebook here.

Song Dawgz at the Crane

The Song Dawgz will be back at the 3 Legged Crane on Thursday evening, March 10, beginning at 6 p.m.  They’ll be playing their usual eclectic mix of covers and originals. It is an open mic night, so stop on in and sing or play some tunes yourself.

Special entertainment series in May

Then, get ready to dance on Friday night, May 11 at the Crane, as Sweet and Juicy returns to Oakridge. They play some of the funkiest music you’ll ever hear, and they do it while dressed up as some of your favorite fruits (pineapple, strawberry and banana). It’s all original and it grooves like George Clinton or Parliament/Funkadelic — seriously. Showtime is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Also at the Crane, Peter Wilde and Friends will be back again on Saturday night, May 12. (Put it on your calendar, he’s there on the 2nd Saturday of every month.) Peter does mostly original tunes that he’s written over the last 25 years. It’s fun stuff to listen to and you’ll find yourself singing along once the chorus comes around a second time. His first set will kick off around 6 p.m.

Olson returns from Hawaii

I’ll be back at the pub this Sunday evening, hopefully well rested from a little vacation. As usual, I’ll be unencumbered with a song list, playing to the most vocal or persistent members of the audience. You just never can tell where things may go. I’ll be strumming my first chord sometime just prior to 6 p.m.

As always, there is no cover charge for these live music events. The 3 Legged Crane offers fine handcrafted ales and beers and a full menu of tasty dishes and sandwiches.

Music at the Dexter Lake Club

There’s live music again at the legendary Dexter Lake Club.

Down the hill at the Dexter Lake Club, Brian Chevalier will be hosting the open mic/jam sessions on Tuesdays and Sundays with no cover charge. Lots of regulars show up every week to have a chance to sing or pick out some tunes on the guitar. Showtime is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Dexter Lake Club has a full bar and a sandwich and dinner menu. For details on upcoming events call 541-581-3000.

Lion Mountain Bakery music lineup

The Lion Mountain Bakery, located on Highway 58 in Oakridge, will be featuring singer-songwriter Broken Horn playing vintage rock, pop and country tunes from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 11, 12 and 13.

I’ll be there playing my bass fiddle this Saturday from 9 a.m. until 10:30 and again on Sunday morning, same time, but I’ll be strumming my ukulele. There is no cover charge for the entertainment at the Bakery and they serve both a breakfast and lunch menu.

That’s all I could find for live music in the Highway 58 corridor for this week. If you know of any live music events happening anywhere in the area that The Herald covers, please drop me a line. Next week, I’ll be filling our readers in on where to find karaoke in the area.
