Entertainment roundup: Upcoming events through April 2 and 3

By BEN OLSON/For The Herald  —  It’s still a little quiet in the Highway 58 corridor for those looking for live music. We had a pretty good run of weather for getting a little spring yardwork done or swinging a golf club for the first time in a while.

The Dexter Lake Club in the heart of downtown Dexter will be having their open mic/ jam sessions, as always, on Tuesdays and Sundays. These events are hosted by the talented multi-instrumentalist Brian Chevalier. Things kick off around 6:30 p.m. All of you wanna-be entertainers are encouraged to bring in an instrument you can jam with, or a song or two that you’d like to sing. I’ll be ending my brief hiatus and returning to the stage at the Dexter Lake Club this Tuesday, March 29, starting at 5:00 p.m. and playing until Brian has everything set up for the jam session. As a special bonus for my fans, I’ll have new strings on my Alvarez 9-string guitar.  The Dexter Lake Club, located at 39128 Dexter Road, Dexter, has a full bar and a dinner and sandwich menu. There is no cover charge for these events. For more information, call 541 581 3000.

The Lion Mountain Bakery will be featuring the only morning live music in the Highway 58 corridor. Broken Horn will be playing his Epiphone ES 335 guitar and singing some old rock and pop chestnuts this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 1, 2 and 3, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The Lion Mountain has a spacious comfortable atmosphere and serves both a breakfast and lunch menu. There is no cover charge for the live music events. The Lion Mountain Bakery is located at 47781 Highway 58 in Oakridge.

The Song Dawgz will be back in action at the 3 Legged Crane in uptown Oakridge this Thursday evening, March 31, from 7 until 9 p.m. This is an open mic and everyone who has a song to sing is encouraged to stop in and be a part of the fun. The 3 Legged Crane has an excellent selection of hand-crafted beers, as well as a dinner and sandwich menu. No cover, no minimum.

The 5 Rivers Group in conjunction with the Friends of Fall Creek Watershed, Inc. will be holding a get-together and fundraiser at the Bowling Alley in Oakridge this Friday, April 1, from 5 to 9 p.m. The two groups have been working hand in hand in the Highway 58 corridor to clean up eyesores left by non-recreational campers. Both groups are working to affect change in Forest Service policies to reduce hazardous and illegal behavior in the Willamette National Forest surrounding us. Stop on down to have a little fun and meet some of the volunteers who give their time to get the hard work done.

That’s all I’ve got this week. If you’ve got information about an upcoming live entertainment event in our area, please drop me a line. Support live music and the musicians who make it!
