I had a ‘busman’s holiday’ Friday night and stopped at the 3 Legged Crane to catch one of my fellow musicians in action. Chris Baron began his extended spring tour to California and Arizona with a show in Oakridge. Originally from Eugene, now living in Portland, Chris enthralled the crowd from the first song as his music flowed from original tunes to covers and back. It was a great blend of technical expertise on the guitar, soulful singing and some well used special effects, including a kick drum. I, and everyone in attendance, look forward to Chris’ return to Oakridge.
Cuchulain (Ka hoo lin) will be returning to Oakridge this Saturday night for a show at the 3 Legged Crane. Cuchulain played last summer at the Deep Woods Distillery, and more recently at the Spotlight Project Presents. Playing mostly originals, with a few choice covers, he lets his absurdist sense of humor shine through, with thoughtful songs about the human condition thrown in as a bonus. Cuchulain (his real name) is an engaging entertainer and will be right at home in the intimate setting of the 3 Legged Crane. Show time is 7 until 9 p.m. There is no cover charge. The Crane serves hand-crafted beers and ales, as well as a dinner and sandwich menu. www.cuchulainkelly.com

We’re all looking forward to warmer temperatures and the return of outdoor music. I’m feeling a little better and will probably be out playing area venues again next week. Of course all that will be in next week’s entertainment column. In the meantime keep supporting live music and the musicians who make it. If you know of any upcoming live music events in the Highway 58 corridor, please drop me a line
