IT TOOK A TEAM EFFORT by rescuers Sunday to safely evacuate an injured woman who had taken a steep fall while hiking the Alpine Trail north of Oakridge-Westfir. Members of Eugene Mountain Rescue, with an assist from Lane County Search and Rescue and the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, used a technical rope-raise system to raise the victim up to the trail, where she was evacuated by a litter team to a waiting ambulance from Oakridge.
The name of the injured hiker and other details of the accident have not been released, pending investigation by the sheriff’s office.
The nine-mile Alpine Trail starts at 3,200 feet elevation and ends at 4,784. It is open to hikers, mountain bikers and horses.
The trail climbs through timber and passes through several open rocky meadows. It is rated as a “moderate to difficult” climb.
Hikers are encouraged to use Travel Lane County’s Google-Trekked Trails to see Google’s “trail view” of this trail before venturing on it. Click on the “trail details” for more information on the trail itself. Alpine Trail / trail details
