Hello dear friends of the farmers market,
Excited to announce that the Oakridge Community Farmers Market is starting back up tomorrow! The winter market will be happening twice a month: every first and third Friday, from noon to 3pm. We hope to see you there! At tomorrow’s market, February 2nd, we’re welcoming the following farmers and food artisans:
- Wild Rye Bakeshop: Fresh artisanal sourdoughs from Hannah
- Lady Sourdough: Jan’s beautiful focaccias, flavorful crackers and freshly baked breads
- SweetWell Farm: certified organic leeks, potatoes, storage onions and spicy dried chilis grown by Lise at her horse-powered farm in Scio
- The People’s Produce Stand: Essie is bringing a beautiful mix of seasonal organic fresh vegetables from different farms (Upriver Organics in Marcola, Little Wings in Eugene, Gathering Together in Corvallis, Camas Swale in Creswell): leafy greens, salad mix, beets, shallots, green cabbage, kabocha squash, shallots
- Little House on High Prairie: Oakridge-raised meats, eggs, all-natural cleaning products, and other surprises from Christina and her amazing family!
For friends with SNAP: Double up Food Bucks will be offered again this year: for a $20 EBT purchase (can be anything: meat, eggs, breads) you get $20 of fresh fruits and veggies for free. (Match can only be done once per market, for up to $20).Thank you for coming to support local growers and makers that are busy harvesting and baking today just for our community! As the season unfolds, different things will become available. This month’s ice storm was really challenging for many farms in our area. Right now is a great time to stock up on hardier veggie types, such as kale and beets, that get sweeter during the cold temps and will stay fresh for weeks in your fridge.Check out this recipe for creamy Potato Leek soup: Simple, warming. I love to add extra leeks or wild watercress. 🙂Thank you for helping us spread the word, looking forward SO MUCH to seeing you!the Westfir Oakridge Local Food team!
