By DOUG BATES/Editor/The Herald — At just before 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, Oakridge Fire issued an emergency Level 1 BE READY evacuation notice for part of the Oakridge area as a result of the nearby Kwis Fire near Salmon Creek east of town.
The area placed on notice includes the High Prairie and Fish Hatchery areas as well as Oakridge north of Roberts Road, the Elk Meadows subdivision and Oakridge east of Salmon Creek. An evacuation map is available at this county website.
Level 1 means you should be aware of the danger that exists in your area, monitor local media outlets and telephone devices to receive further information.
This is the time for preparation and precautionary movement of persons with special needs, mobile property, pets and livestock.
If conditions worsen, public safety personnel will make contact again using the emergency notification system.
Call 911 if you will need assistance evacuating if a Level 2 notice is issued.
