An estimated 75 people chose these top winners in Saturday’s chili cookoff sponsored by the Lowell Grange. Maibel Brigido and Steve Hern, center, won the top prize of $50. Patty Trimper, left, placed second, and Pat Woodhurst, at right, third.
Guests spent the early afternoon tasting the chili prepared by 11 entrants and picked the winners.
Hern said his team “focused on variety” in preparing for the first cookoff sponsored by the Grange.
Helping with registration, from left, were Virginia Galvin, cookoff leader Ruth George and Katherine Hern. Spectators paid $3 to taste each chili and to rank the winners. Second place was awarded $25 and third $15.
