OREGON CAPITAL CHRONICLE — The 4th Congressional District includes the college towns of Eugene and Corvallis, as well as the central and south coast. Democrat Val Hoyle has represented it since 2023, when longtime U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Oregon chose to retire following redistricting that made the district safer for Democrats.
Hoyle handily won the district in 2022, beating Republican Alek Skarlatos by 7 points. But she has been dogged in her first term in Congress by negative headlines about her association with the founders of a troubled cannabis company, and Republicans think they have better odds in 2024 with Air Force veteran Monique DeSpain.
