Flag disposal ceremony to be held at Oakridge rest area on Friday

On Flag Day, June 14, at 5 p.m., the Oakridge Post 64 of The American Legion will hold a flag burning ceremony. One American flag that has been deemed out of service will be properly destroyed at the Highway 58 rest stop, located at the east end of Oakridge, next to Greenwaters Park.

Post 64, the Scout Pack 65 and Troop 64 will demonstrate the proper way to dispose of our American flag when it is no longer serviceable.
Our American flag is a living representation of our values created by our forefathers over 250 years ago. It has been 10 years since this was done here in Oakridge and we have accumulated a number of unserviceable flags. Only one flag will be burned, and the remainder will be burned with dignity at a later date.
Please join us as we honor our American flag this next week on Flag Day Friday, June 14.
If you are a veteran, and would like to help or are interested in becoming a member of The American Legion, please feel free to call Ken Wright at (541) 521-6815.
