By GEORGE CUSTER/Editor — “I’m a water person so when we came here, I just fell in love with all the rivers and lakes” says Loren Tarr, wife of Robert Tarr, and co-owner of Flying Dog Gallery.
Flying Dog opened for business on Friday, July 7. Actually, a little later than had been planned due to the city-wide power outage.
Robert and Loren Tarr have been in the area for a few years now; first purchasing a home in Westfir. Their hearts were set on opening a gallery for Robert’s artwork.
They eventually sold their home in Westfir and purchased the commercial space next to the Corner Bar and Grill. It took them over a year to remodel the back portion of the building into living space. The front half of the storefront has been turned into a gallery space, replete with appropriate wall lighting to highlight Robert’s works.
The couple, who have been married for over 50 years, found Oakridge by helping a friend move to the area. Once here, they fell in love with the area and decided to relocate here themselves.
Robert is a native of Newark, New Jersey. Though his father George was a successful artist, it took a broken foot and the availability of artist materials to prompt him to begin his career in art. His works have been sold in several states and Canada.
His whimsical style can’t help but bring a smile to your face. The vivid colors seem to enhance the already playful themes he chooses for his pieces.
Stop and visit the Flying Dog Gallery when you can. If nothing else, a tour through the gallery will brighten your day, I guarantee it.
