A person of interest was questioned by Police Chief Martin and Oakridge area Oregon State Police officer Miller, Chief Martin said. He stated that the male, suspected of starting the fire, was detained for a mental health hold and evaluation. By GEORGE CUSTER/Editor/The Herald — Fire, rescue, and police units from around the East County responded to a house fire on the 48200 block of Y Drive in Oakridge around midday Wednesday. It was reported to The Herald that the house has long been vacant. However, persons of interest were being questioned concerning the fire.
Besides Oakridge Fire Department, a sizeable contingent from Lowell Fire Department was on hand. A Lowell fireman indicated that Lowell will respond, if available, when asked by Oakridge. Also on hand to assist was a truck from our local U.S. Forest Service and a truck from Inbound, a local contract wildland fire fighting company.
From the street vantage point, this reporter could not ascertain if other structures were damaged or threatened.
There appeared to be no casualties from the blaze. EMT units, though, were standing by. Oregon State Police also provided a security presence.
