LANE COUNTY AWARDED TOP HONOR FOR BUDGET DOCUMENT

News Release from Lane Co. Government
Posted on FlashAlert: January 26th, 2022, 8:00 AM

The 2021–2022 Lane County budget document has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

This is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant accomplishment by Lane County and its staff. The County’s adopted budget has received this honor sixteen times.

Lane County’s budget document is one of the most important documents the County publishes each year. The budget document reflects policy and financial planning while also serving as an operations guide and communications tool. At its core, the budget document shares what funding is available, where funding goes and what services are provided to residents.

Lane County’s Budget and Financial Planning staff work extensively to prepare this document with the help of department leaders.

In addition to the GFOA award, Lane County was also notified by Moody’s Investors Services in January that its credit rating of Aa1 has been re-affirmed. An Aa1 rating, which is the second highest rating Moody’s provides, signals strong financial management and prudent use of resources.

“We are honored to receive this award for the sixteenth time since 2005,” said County Administrator Steve Mokrohisky. “Our budget document reflects the hard work that budget staff put into creating an informative resource about how our programs and services are funded. We have worked hard at Lane County to create a stable, balanced budget with sustainable services that help improve the lives of residents in our community.”

The award was established in 1984 by the GFOA to “encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality.” Nominated documents are reviewed by GFOA staff and outside reviewers with expertise in public sector budgeting.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving more than 21,000 government finance professionals throughout the United States and Canada.
