Take the survey at www.LaneCountyOR.gov/mitigation.
Lane County’s Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan is updated every five years. Mitigation means taking action now to reduce our long-term risk from natural hazards. It is our local blueprint to help protect people and property. Updating this plan also makes Lane County and its partner cities eligible for federal grants and funding to help mitigate the effects of disasters. Grants could help with projects such as fuels reduction to reduce wildfire risk.
In addition to unincorporated Lane County, the multi-jurisdictional plan includes the cities of Coburg, Creswell, Dunes City, Florence, Junction City, Lowell, Oakridge, Veneta and Westfir. Local utilities, including Blachly-Lane, Consumers Power, Inc., Emerald People’s Utility District, and Lane Electric, are also included.
“The draft plan represents a lot of work and a lot of feedback from our community partners and residents,” said Lane County Emergency Manager Patence Winningham. “It’s important for us to share the draft and ask for more feedback to make sure we have captured what is most important.”
Residents can provide feedback on the draft plan using an online comment form. The comment form will be open through June 14.
