GEORGE CUSTER/Editor/The Herald — Parting is such sweet sorrow. Not So!. Today’s “Last Ride” to school by the graduating class of 2022 was one filled with smiles and cheers as they slowly paraded down First Street today.
The assortment of “rides” included quads, a toy scooter, bicycles, cars, jeeps, and even a fishing boat.
Event organizer, Cailey Sokolowski, informed The Herald that today is their checking out day, so there will be no more classwork for them.
The parade was led by Oakridge Police Officer Valerie Miller and Chief Martin brought up the rear.
The event started a little after eight on a partially overcast Wednesday. However, spirits were high, and the crowds of supporters were all sunny.
Much to the delight of the children, the lead police car lit up its lights and let the siren blare as the procession passed the elementary school.
Parents and other onlookers lined First Street and cheered the seniors on.
Were the kids late for School? Who cares? It’s their day. They’ll soon be off to bigger things as this new generation takes on the world.
Graduation will take place in the Jerry Snyder Gymnasium Saturday, June 11, at 11 a.m.
