Design a Bookmark
By GEORGI SAMUELSON/for The Herald — The Oakridge Library Board is sponsoring a “Design A Bookmark” contest. Judging is by age groups and the first and second place in each age group will receive gift certificates for Barnes & Noble. The prize for the first place bookmark is $30 and for second place is $15.
The entry forms for the contest are available at the library and at the Elementary School office. The registration form shows a blank bookmark template. This is to indicate the size the bookmark should be. You do not need to draw your bookmark on the entry form but you certainly can if you wish. You may submit your entry on any kind of paper (size 2.5″ x 7.5″). Also, your design must be “flat” i.e. two-dimensional. Entries will be judged by the Library Board at their January meeting.
Polar Express party at the library
Maria Topham and her daughters are sponsoring a “Polar Express” Holiday Open House party at the library on Saturday December 17th from 10-1pm. There will be Holiday stories, Holiday crafts, and Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive with gifts. Sounds like FUN!
Getting a library card
Junior High and Senior High patrons applying for a library card no longer need to provide a copy of a parent or guardian ID but may use their own school photo ID. This change encourages the children in 7th to 12th grade to take responsibility for their own library check-outs. Children may apply for a card if they are 8 years and older. However,, if they are not yet in 7th grade they must provide a copy of a parent or guardian ID. Also, as a reminder, the $10 “out of city limits” fee is waived for minors.
Other benefits of a library card
Two other reminders: the Library Drop Box in front of the pharmacy is “fine-free”. And ,lastly, you may use your library card to download thousands of eBooks and audiobooks. Instructions for Library2Go are available at the library.
