LCOG Member Appreciation Dinner to Honor Community Members and Raise Money for Senior Meals Program

The Lane Council of Governments (LCOG) will host its Annual Member Appreciation Dinner on Saturday, March 4, at 6:00 p.m. at the Cottage Grove Armory, located at 628 E. Washington Ave., in Cottage Grove. Elected and appointed officials, business and community members, and public employees from across Lane County are expected to attend.

LCOG will celebrate regional accomplishments for the prior year and recognize Elected Officials, Public Employees, Citizens, Intergovernmental Teams, Economic Enhancement work, and those who have dedicated their lives to public service.

There will also be a silent auction to benefit Senior Meals Program (Meals on Wheels/Café 60). Many local businesses have donated items for the auction, including a one-night stay at McMenamin’s Kennedy School, a one-night stay at Three River’s Casino Hotel, two rounds of golf at Fiddler’s Green, a $150 gift card to Elevation Bouldering Gym, passes to the Oregon Coast Aquarium, gift certificates and items from local businesses, and various handmade and crafted items from local artists.

The Senior Meals Program is a part of Senior and Disability Services (S&DS), a division of LCOG. It helps people aged 60 and older maintain their independence by providing food, friendship, and safety check.

  • It operates 11 Café 60 dining rooms around Lane County.
  • Meals on Wheels volunteers in 8 Lane County communities deliver lunches and safety checks for their home-bound older neighbors.

Both programs serve adults aged 60 and older and their spouses, regardless of their income.

Café 60 Dining Rooms operate in Eugene, Springfield, Junction City, Oakridge, Veneta, Coburg, Cottage Grove, Florence, and Creswell.

S&DS Meals on Wheels delivers meals in Springfield, Creswell, Cottage Grove, Florence, Junction City, Oakridge, and Veneta. In Eugene, Meals on Wheels are delivered by FOOD for Lane County.

Participants make a voluntary contribution. However, no eligible person is refused service who is unable to contribute. Both programs are only partially federally funded and depend heavily on participant contributions for their meals as well as on charitable gifts.

One in four older people in the U.S. is malnourished, and proceeds from the silent auction will help LCOG continue to provide nutritious meals, friendship, and safety checks to the growing number of our older neighbors in need.

Those who wish to attend the event can purchase tickets for $40 each online at www.lcog.org.
