Free Diabetes Self-Management Workshop Starts September 20

 EUGENE, Ore. — Senior & Disability Services, a division of Lane Council of Governments, will offer a free, virtual Diabetes Self-Management workshop starting Tuesday, September 20, 2022. The workshop is designed for diabetics, pre-diabetics, and family members of diabetics.

Class sessions will take place on Tuesdays from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. for six weeks.

Classes will be held virtually over Zoom. Participants will need access to the internet, a camera, and a microphone to participate.

 Participants will:

  • Receive a free Living Well with Chronic Conditions guidebook
  • Participate in 6 weekly virtual meetings with 6 – 12 other participants
  • Learn how to safely monitor and manage diabetes
  • Set and work towards goals

Topics covered include:

  • Techniques to deal with the symptoms of diabetes, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress, and emotional problems such as depression, anger, fear and frustration;
  • Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength and endurance;
  • Healthy eating
  • Appropriate use of medication; and,
  • Working more effectively with health care providers. This program has also been proven effective with caregivers.
