By JANET HANSEN/for The Herald — Uptown Oakridge is one of the best-kept secrets in western Oregon.
Ask anyone. Did you know there’s a burgeoning art scene in Oakridge? If you know, where can I find it?
Among the dozen or so galleries, shops, and eateries on the first plateau above Highway 58, sits a barn red cornerstone gallery at the intersection of East 1st Street and Ash. Cascade Art Works is a relatively new gallery with a brand new owner, and a well-heeled approach to local and regional art.
Same building, new name
Saturday, November 18 from 3-5, PM Cascade Art Works’ new owner, Holly Olson, invites the general public to a meet and greet grand opening. A selection of local and regional artists will be on hand to talk about their work. Ben Olson & Friends will provide background acoustic classics while guests are encouraged to mingle with a glass of wine and other refreshments.
Within Cascade Art Works is a well-curated collection from local artisans. Olson recently added the work of award-winning sculptor, Jud Turner of Eugene. Turner’s work has added an entirely new dimension rounding out a full offering of contemporary art from many realms and price ranges.
