By JANET HANSEN/for The Herald  —  Uptown Oakridge is one of the best-kept secrets in western Oregon.

Ask anyone. Did you know there’s a burgeoning art scene in Oakridge? If you know, where can I find it?

Among the dozen or so galleries, shops, and eateries on the first plateau above Highway 58,   sits a barn red cornerstone gallery at the intersection of East 1st Street and Ash. Cascade Art Works is a relatively new gallery with a brand new owner, and a well-heeled approach to local and regional art.

Saturday, November 18 from 3-5, PM Cascade Art Works’ new owner, Holly Olson, invites the general public to a meet and greet grand opening. A selection of local and regional artists will be on hand to talk about their work. Ben Olson & Friends will provide background acoustic classics while guests are encouraged to mingle with a glass of wine and other refreshments.

Within Cascade Art Works is a well-curated collection from local artisans.  Olson recently added the work of award-winning sculptor, Jud Turner of Eugene. Turner’s work has added an entirely new dimension rounding out a full offering of contemporary art from many realms and price ranges.

Turner joins a coterie of local artists including award-winning artists Barbara Counsil Burney and Dee Sidwell; as well as Rebel Wilder, and Rachel Nehmer to name a few.

Olson has immersed herself within an emerging group of entrepreneurs hell bent on transforming a century-old timber town into a cultural center as well as recreational destination nestled in the pristine foothills of the Cascade range.

In the weeks and months ahead, Cascade Art Works will host classes and demonstrations, as well as events highlighting other disciplines like music, literature, and poetry. Please visit:
