Once again, it is your time and privilege to cast your vote. Don’t take it lightly.
Examine the candidates and think about the past effects of the representation of those who are asking to be re-elected.
It hasn’t always looked good. One Counselor who refuses to attend meetings in person. Another Counselor (not re-running) who has been mentored for the years of her service by a local person now running, who has always had a very negative approach to all things City, who did serve briefly on council several years ago, and wants to serve again.
We had an excellent Mayor who gave up in despair of getting cooperation from Councilors, we have a current Mayor who is very capable, highly educated, is well acquainted with Government from Federal on down, duly elected, who has been disrespected and discounted by certain council members, who were smart and enthusiastic to hire him as City Administrator, then made his tenure hell. One of which, thankfully, is stepping down.
We have had Councilors voting as a bloc. This is not acceptable. We need a council who will abide by the wishes of their constituents, who will set aside their personal desires in favor of the community. Fiscally responsible persons who will recognize the need for frugality in City spending and spend where the money will do the most good. It isn’t easy to park ego at the door and enter as a servant. Can your candidate do that?
We need a council who will run city police and fire departments with proper decorum with the needs of the community in first place. We need better government at all levels.
Out with the old, in with the new. Give these well-intentioned people with new ideas and fewer personal interests, the opportunity to show us a new path to good governance.
