Just wondering……
I was thinking of a friend who landed a wonderful job until the new supervisor ran a credit check and discovered that this person had poor credit. The. supervisor explained to this person that they would be handling sizable amounts of money that belonged to company clients and it was company policy not to hire anyone with bad credit no matter how otherwise fit for the job. My friend was perfect for the job in every other way. It was very disappointing to my friend.
Then I thought about government and the pickle we are in for money here in Oakridge and all the way up the ladder to Washington DC. We all pay too much for water, taxes, fees, and the functions of Government from the grass roots up. Now inflation is raiding us as well. This company was smart and credit checks ought to be in order for everyone who handles anyone else’s money.
Now my thought is that it should be written into the Charter that everyone applying for a seat on Council, or announcing for election, would produce a current credit report along with their application and credentials. Are we seating councilors who cannot handle their own finances then charging them to administrate a multi-million-dollar city budget with our hard-earned money? Maybe this is something we should all be wondering about.
