By DEAN REA/Correspondent/The Herald — George Wild will be happy if a couple of dozen cars show up for a July 24 auto parade that leads downtown in Lowell where the Pine Needlers will be conducting their popular two-day quilt show.
Wild, a Blackberry Jam Festival veteran, volunteered to organize the event that will start with an 11:30 parade through town and will end with a car show at Rolling Rock Park.
“The event will be open to any type of car, but normally vintage cars,” Wild said. “The parade route will be through as many streets as possible. Spectators will vote for the best car and votes will be dropped off downtown near our three restaurants to encourage people to eat there.”
The car parade has been among the events that drew large crowds to Lowell during the Blackberry Jam Festival, which was canceled this year because COVID-19 discouraged large crowds.
“Usually, we would get as many as a hundred cars in the show,” Wild said. “If we get 20 this year, we’ll be happy.”
The “Diamonds in the Rough” quilt show is scheduled for Saturday, July 24 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Sunday, July 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 pm in the Lundy Elementary School Gymnasium, 45 S. Moss St. The show is free. Raffle tickets for a quilt are $1 each or $5 for six. Tickets for additional raffle prizes will be available. The winning ticket will be drawn on Sunday, and the winner need not be present.
All monies earned from the raffle prizes are invested in the community. Forms to enter a quilt in the show are available at the Lowell City Hall, from Teri Harter 541-968-9079 and online at bbjamquiltshow.wordpress.com.
