The Lowell High School varsity football team is adjusting to an 11-man football season but came up short Friday night, losing to Oakland 26-12.
The Red Devils, who played eight-man football last season, trailed Oakland at halftime, 20-6.
Tailback Austin Smith, who had more than 100 yards rushing, scored on a 54-yard run on the last play of the game.
“It was a long night,” said coach Pat Todd, who started the season with only one experienced player.
The Red Devils play again March 26 at Central Linn.
