Meet the candidates: Bryan Cutchen

I’m Bryan Cutchen, a 31-year Navy veteran who served as your City Administrator, 07/2019 through 02/2022. During my time as CA, ten critical ordinances were adopted, 12 grants awarded exceeding $2M, and I guided the city through the pandemic by hosting multiple drive-through COVID vaccine clinics.

I resigned as City Administrator due to a lack of shared vision and teamwork with the current City Council, but I never quit serving Oakridge. I bought a home here and I continue to volunteer: Chairman of the WAC restoration committee, on the Board of Directors for the Middle Fork Willamette Watershed Council, recently helped distribute air filters for Oakridge Air.

I am running for election as Mayor because I believe my understanding of the issues will enable me to lead the City of Oakridge to achieving solvency and revitalization. To do this I need your votes for me and a new City Council.

  • If elected/reelected, what will be your #1 top priority for 2023?

By far and away the most critical issue facing Oakridge is that the city is spending more money than it takes in. We must develop a balanced budget which does not rely upon grant funds or borrowed funds to be sustainable.

  • If elected/reelected, how do you define your roll as councilor/mayor (as appropriate)?

The role of the mayor is broadly defined by the Charter and Council Rules and Procedures. The mayor sets the agenda and presides over city council meetings, represents Oakridge to external organizations and with the help of your councilors, communicates effectively with the people of Oakridge about their local government.
