By BEN OLSON/For The Herald — With last week’s Deep Woods “End of the Summer” shindig, we bid goodbye to the glories of summer and welcome autumn, with its cooler temperatures and the rains that will finally put out the wildfires.
This Sunday, Oct. 3, The Spotlight Project Presents has a richly diverse lineup of guests. There will be an on-air interview with John Crane, owner and brewmaster of the 3 Legged Crane in Uptown Oakridge. The main man at the Deep Woods Distillery, Mick Garvin, will also stand for an interview.
The works of artist Robert Tarr (www.robertmartintarrutopiancolorist.com) of Oakridge will be featured as well as a segment with Trudy Hammond with the Mountain Respite and Mission Rescue Safety Animal Center talking about pet adoption (safetyanimalcenter.com).
There will be a new feature entitled Oakridge City Lights which will combine musicians who have not worked together and who may have different styles to come up with something both interesting and entertaining. This first performance will have director Loren Christopher Michaels teaming up with Oakridge’s own Kai Botak, a talented singer-songwriter to do some original songs.
To watch the show live, go to The Spotlight Project Presents on facebook. Showtime is 7 PM on Sunday, October 3. The full lineup of previous shows can be found on The Spotlight Project Presents on youtube.
Elsewhere in the Highway 58 corridor, there will be live music at the Lion Mountain Bakery on the highway in Oakridge this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 1, 2 and 3, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Broken Horn will be covering rock and pop tunes from the golden age of rock and roll. I’ll be doing a feature next week on Broken Horn.
The Dexter Lake Club in the heart of downtown Dexter will be having its electric open mic and jam session, hosted by Brian Chevalier on Sunday, Oct. 3, beginning around 6:30 p.m. The acoustic open mic, hosted by Brian and Craig Sorseth, is on Tuesday evening, Oct. 5, also kicking off around 6:30 p.m. Karaoke night is every Thursday night. Call for details at 541 581-3000.
This reporter will be headed east for a bit, to attend a class reunion and a wedding, and to play a gig or two along the way. If you’re in Burns on Saturday, Oct. 2, I’ll be playing my guitar at the Central Hotel and on Monday, Oct. 4, I’ll be entertaining the residents of the Spring Gardens Senior Living Center in Heber City, Utah, with my dear, sainted mother in attendance.
Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, I’ll be able to continue to keep you updated on all the latest Highway 58 entertainment news while I’m galavanting around the Midwest. All for now.
