By GARY CARL/for The Herald — The fifth & final budget committee meeting finished up on June 21st. Minor adjustments were made by Kevin Martin and Colleen Shirley and these adjustments were explained and reviewed by the Committee. The three agenda items all passed by a vote of nine ayes & one abstention.
The committee voted to approve the Fiscal Year 22-23 Budget as presented by Martin, our temporary City Administrator, and Shirley, our City’s Finance Director & send it on to the City Council.
First, however, there will be a Council Work Session to discuss the Public Safety Fee. This work session is scheduled for Thursday June 23rd. If the Council decides to eliminate the Public Safety Fee, as some in the community are suggesting, it will create about a $250,000 hole in the approved budget.
The Committee voted to approve the imposition of the Fiscal year Property Tax Levy and send it on to the City Council. And, finally, the Committee approved receiving the Fiscal Year State Revenue Sharing Funds.
It was the consensus of the Committee that Kevin Martin and Colleen Shirley stepped up on short notice to handle a very difficult task drafting this year’s budget and they did a remarkable job. Martin commented that he was looking forward to returning to being the City’s Police Chief!
