Oakridge disc golf club to host Middle Fork Open for third year: Join in, get involved, have fun

By JASON NEHMER/for The Herald  —  Our biggest annual tournament (three years running), The Middle Fork Open https://www.discgolfscene.com/tournament/Middle_Fork_Open_2023 is quickly approaching. This PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association) sanctioned, weekend long event is scheduled for July 29th and 30th. The event will feature professional and amateur disc golfers battling it out on both the Old Mill Disc Golf Course in Oakridge and the Office Bridge Disc Golf Course in Westfir. A double header that will test the mettle of every player.

Recreational activities in the area: disc golf, check

Speaking of tests, the Oakridge Disc Golf Club has risen to the occasion time and time again since it’s inception. Just over four years ago (founded in 2019) the ODGC brought the greater Oakridge area quality, low impact outdoor recreation that is relatively inexpensive and easily accessible for all. And, it all started out with a four-hole disc golf course at Osprey Park in Oakridge.
It’s hard to believe that since that humble beginning, the club has built two championship level courses and has held numerous PDGA sanctioned events, such as the Mountain Town Throwdown and the Middle Fork Open. Not to mention, the club’s annual fundraiser for local veteran organizations; Veterans for Vets.

A meet and greet “fun raiser” coming next weekend

We’re even hosting a BBQ meet and greet ‘fun raiser’ for the community at large the weekend of July 22nd and 23rd at the Office Bridge and Old Mill respectively. There will be random draw doubles from noon to 4 PM and a BBQ with free grub and refreshments from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Come on out and enjoy a day in the park on us. All this, and it still feels like it’s just the beginning of something truly unique and special for locals and tourists alike.
We’re always looking for ways to improve and grow the sport inclusively and substantially in the region.
So, stop on by and check out the Middle Fork Open if you’re looking for some live entertainment in the form of flying discs; it’s impressive to say the least. Or, better yet, contact the Oakridge Disc Golf Club at [email protected]. Or,  tune in on your preferred social media platform to catch up on the action and get involved if you’re interested. We’re a friendly bunch that has plenty of room for more.
