If you live in the city of Oakridge, and you’ve got junk to get rid of, you’re almost out of time to take advantage of the town’s “Junk Amnesty” program.
Thursday, April 15, is the final day the city will be allowing you to drop-off of your junk — not your trash — at no charge at the large yellow building at 79296 Industrial Park Way at the Oakridge Industrial Park. The service runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., although closed for lunch between noon and 1 p.m.
City workers will not do the unloading, and those bringing their junk need to be prepared to separate by type — glass, wood, plastics or metal.
The service is for Oakridge residents only. Proof of residency, such as a utility bill or driver’s license, must be shown at the drop-off site.
No tires, household garbage or hazardous materials will be accepted. This means no campers or construction materials, including roofing, floor tile and laminate, house siding, pipe wrapping or any other material that might contain asbestos.
Any item such as a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner that contains a compressor will require pre-payment of a freon recovery fee of $15.25. The fee must be paid in advance at City Hall, and a receipt for the payment must be provided at the time of drop-off.
Further information may be obtained by calling City Hall at 541-782-2258.
