By GEORGE CUSTER/President/The Herald — After settling up all the bills and allowing the dust to settle, the Oakridge Disc Golf Club felt proud. Their pride came knowing that they could now donate their recent tournament proceeds to The American Legion, Post 64, Oakridge.
The club gave a check for $1,250 to the Post. Legionnaires Skip Baker, current commander of the local post, John Milandin, Allen DeBuhr, and David Borton were on hand.
Veterans for Vets tournament held earlier
Jason Nehmer, president of the disc golf club, met the group on the course and presented Skip with the check.
The club held its second annual fundraiser, the “Veterans for Vets” disc golf tournament, earlier in January. Players came from all points of Oregon for the event. Last year the event netted $1,100 that was also donated to the Oakridge American Legion Post. The mission of The American Legion is: “To enhance the well-being of America’s veterans, their families, our military, and our communities by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.”
A second disc golf course in Westfir
Jason reminded me of the addition of a second certified course in Westfir. This additional course will, Jason believes, bring additional status to the area for championship-level tournaments. This should equate to more tourists coming to, and staying, in our lodging and shopping our stores.
Sponsors and suppliers are key
Of note, Jason reminded me, is that the Dynamic Discs company is the main supplier and sponsor for these disc golf events. Jason said that were it not for their support, building courses such as the Old Mill Disc Golf course and these tournaments would be prohibitively costly to put on. Thank you, Dynamic Discs.
